Garlic Noodles Asian Style (Print version)

Quick aromatic noodles coated in rich garlic butter sauce with Asian-inspired savory flavors.

# What you'll need:

→ Noodles

01 - 8 oz spaghetti or Asian wheat noodles

→ Sauce

02 - 3 tbsp unsalted butter
03 - 3 tbsp olive oil
04 - 8 large garlic cloves, finely minced
05 - 2 tbsp light soy sauce
06 - 2 tsp oyster sauce
07 - 1 tbsp brown sugar
08 - 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

→ Garnishes

09 - 2 tbsp finely chopped scallions
10 - 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
11 - 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)

# Method:

01 - Cook noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain thoroughly, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water, and set aside.
02 - Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat until melted. Add minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
03 - Reduce heat to low. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and black pepper. Stir continuously until sugar dissolves and sauce is well combined.
04 - Add cooked noodles to the skillet. Toss thoroughly using tongs or wooden spoon to coat noodles evenly in sauce. Add splash of reserved pasta water if needed for consistency.
05 - Remove from heat immediately. Top with chopped scallions, Parmesan cheese, and sesame seeds as desired. Serve while hot.

# Expert advice:

01 -
  • The sauce comes together in minutes but tastes like it simmered for hours
  • Everything cooks in one pan so cleanup is practically nonexistent
  • It hits that perfect spot between comforting and exciting
02 -
  • Burnt garlic ruins everything instantly. Watch it like a hawk and remove the pan from heat if needed.
  • The sauce thickens quickly as it cools. Add more pasta water if you are reheating leftovers.
03 -
  • Let your butter and oil mingle over medium-low heat before adding garlic. This prevents burning and creates a more stable cooking fat.
  • The sauce tastes better after resting for 5 minutes off heat. Give the flavors time to meld before serving.
